The organization
The organization
Keeping citizens safe
The Alberta Elevating Devices and Amusement Rides Safety Association (AEDARSA) provides oversight to the installation and continuous maintenance of elevating devices, amusement rides, and passenger ropeways across Alberta.
The challenge
The challenge
Enhance data capture and reporting
Improve the functionality and business value of the in-house applications used to manage safety inspections. Plus bolster AEDARSA's reporting capabilities by enhancing the databases, improving search and filtering, and adding to the amount of data that can be viewed in an administrative web portal.
The solution
The solution
Key partner in solution build
The project resulted in the merging of two foundational service management applications into a single solution. Silver Creek was engaged for the entirety of the transition.
Applications Audit
A detailed assessment of the two main applications included a review of security roles, user interface, performance, error handling, code quality, architecture and system documentation. Silver Creek also reviewed the environment, DevOps capabilities, deployment and testing strategies, traceability and information retrieval.
Application Development
A transition plan was adopted followed by an intensive application stabilization exercise. During the transition phase, the Silver Creek development team acquired all compulsory information from the current vendor by facilitating knowledge transfer sessions and documenting technical specifications. Silver Creek also setup a new development and DevOps environment to prepare for application stabilization.
Silver Creek deployed a DevOps approach to development in collaboration with AEDARSA and its vendors. Development of the new system included improvements to workflow, GIS functionality, and user interfaces.
Data Analytics
Silver Creek has initiated an increased effort to bolster AEDARSA’s reporting capabilities by implementing database enhancements allowing administrators to retrieve more relevant data regarding device permits, inspections, directives, and other key pieces of information. The development team also implemented additional filters to allow a larger volume of data from the reports to be displayed in the administrative web portal.
The benefits
The benefits
Collaborative process builds superior applications
The application development team builds solutions using an Agile scrum approach relying on an incremental delivery structure with bi-weekly sprints, prioritizing issues that affect core business operations. Lead by a business analyst who facilitates requirements gathering and management, Silver Creek’s full stack developers identify key components of AEDARSA’s future vision while balancing long-term goals with more pressing needs.
In addition, the development team is focused on collaborating with stakeholders to develop a clear vision on data strategy to enhance reporting capabilities and increase data availability and access for the appropriate users
