Geosteering, the technique used to adjust the path of wellbores in real-time based on geological data, is integral to ensuring that drilling is focused on the most productive zones of oil and gas reservoirs. Bitcap.io has developed Pathfinder, a unified platform that can be leveraged to handle geosteering and manage well data while maximizing contact with hydrocarbon-rich zones.

Finding local resources to take their current software to the next level
The BitCap management team had previously been outsourcing the development of Pathfinder’s features to an overseas development team. As the product continued to evolve and new functionality was needed to address growing complexity in the needs of business users, the decision was made to transition the software development and maintenance duties to an Alberta-based software development partner that would be able to provide an additional layer of specialized GIS and RPA expertise.

Implementing Robotics Process Automation
We deployed expert software development resources to address unresolved bugs and process inefficiencies. We have also provided UI and UX consulting to improve the overall user-friendliness of the Pathfinder interface. Our consultants leveraged their extensive knowledge of C# and GIS to address existing weaknesses in the application and kickstart the development of improvements to further Pathfinder’s standing the most intuitive geosteering software tool in the industry to date. This work includes enhancing automated process features that incorporate GIS capabilities, which include import and creation processes used to generate structural maps based on live geosteering well data, with continuous live updates occurring during the geosteering process (powered by RPA capabilities and the geosteering algorithm).
Providing UX/UI design
In addition, our UI/UX design practice lead was tasked with evaluating the current presentation of Pathfinder’s workflow features. Interface improvements are aimed at increasing the effortlessness and efficiency of every user action in the application – including the structure and layout of tabs used to perform various functions such as object formatting and side-tracking.
